Veteran blues guitarist Marv Ward grew up in the small town of Lorton, Virginia. He played his first gig at 10 and started performing professionally at age 16. He's played in literally dozens of bands over the past 40 years and has secured his place among bluesmen with his straightforward no-nonsense blues style.  It's a little bit Delta, a little bit Piedmont, a whole lot of R&B, but mostly, it's straight up Rev. Marv Ward.

Marv has played his original and visionary blues stylings in venues all over the country and has shared stages with music legends such as Aerosmith, Joan Baez, Dave Van Ronk, Paul Geremia, Maria Muldaur, Nappy Brown, John Hammond, Bob Margolin, Big Bill Morganfield, and many more.

Last August, Ward's easy going personality and Delta Blues style of playing won over the hearts and minds of judges and audience members alike at the 7th Annual Blues Talent Competition at the legendary Double Door in Charlotte, NC. In the final round against acts like The Rusty Davis Band, Wards self-effacing humor and brilliant cover of Built for Comfort put him at the front of the pack.

Ward was the only acoustic act at the competition. Harmonica virtuoso, Mike Naz Nazarenko and the young and talented stand up bassist Todd Edmonds backed Ward. Ward went into it with the right attitude saying, "Well, if I can just make it to the semi-finals and maybe get a gig out of it, Ill be happy. When they announced my name in the first round at first I didn't think I heard right."

“High Flying Bird”, his latest CD, only hints at the warmth and appeal of this Midlands-based guitarist and his talented band, The Blues Disciples. Expect sizzling Piedmont blues, Delta slide, greasy rags, and straight-ahead urban blues from this South Carolina singer, songwriter, guitarist and poet.
