appearing on stage at 12:00 noon Toronto native Jeff Liberty is no stranger to the Columbia music scene. Columbia music lovers are sure to remember the bands Mojo Blue, The Second Hand Blues Band and Blue Luna. Jeff has been performing professionally and lending his unique intensity to blues bands here for over 15 years and not only to local audiences, but to eager fans around the world. He has circled the globe twice performing in 20 countries on four continents captivating audiences with his gravelly voice and intense guitar playing. Jeff has even played some blues on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee with a legendary band call The Beale Street Cadillac Blues Band. Jeff is also a solo performer and has an acoustic blues style that is not only technically great, but exhibits nothing short of soul. He was voted "Best Local Solo Artist" in the Free Times Reader’s Poll in 2000. That same year he released his solo effort on CD, "The Tax Of Bein’ Free." This present incarnation, Jeff Liberty Band, played their first gig in January of 2001. The dynamic chemistry quickly grabbed the concert lover’s attention once again. Free Times readers in 2001 recognized them as "Best New Local Band" and "Best Local Blues Band". Last year they released "Dry Spell" featuring eleven original songs and riding the airwaves on WUSC 90.5, Fox 102.3 and internet radio stations in England, Portugal and Spain. The best way to describe Jeff’s style is hard rocking and hard hitting. It is as if he opens himself to an old blues soul that enters this performer and actually transforms him to a place we want to know more about. Veteran drummer Rob Cherry’s unique sense of rhythm, impeccable timing and powerful chops are the backbone of the band’s sound. Bass man James Wallace is known among locals for his diverse musical talent. From hard rock to intergalactic jazz, Wallace has run the gauntlet of musical expression. His intuitive, grounding bass lines form a perfect trine for this hard rocking trio. Together, the Jeff Liberty Band touts an aggressive style incorporating Texas, Chicago, and Memphis blues that is sure to get the festival started on the right get-ready-to-get-down note. |
